Author Guidelines

Article types

JLPF accepts the types below. Authors declare the type at submission, and the manuscript is assessed against the requirements of that type only. Each type's requirements are stated in its section policy.

  • Research Article
  • Doctrinal / Legal Analysis
  • Policy Analysis
  • Review Article
  • Case Study

Citation style

APA 7th edition, author–date in text (Author, 2024). Manuscripts in another style are returned for reformatting before review.

Legal instruments and decisions are the exception. They are not cited in author–date form. In the text they are cited to the article, clause or paragraph relied on, and they are listed in full in the Table of Legislation or the Table of Cases rather than in the reference list. Scholarly sources, legal scholarship included, follow APA 7.

Length

8,000-12,000 words excluding the reference list, the Table of Legislation and the Table of Cases.

Requirements specific to JLPF

  • Where the article relies on legal instruments or judicial decisions, a Table of Legislation and a Table of Cases must precede the reference list, listing every instrument and decision relied on. An article that relies on none omits the tables; an article that relies on any may not.
  • Cite to the article, clause or paragraph - never to an instrument as a whole.
  • Where an Indonesian instrument is given in translation, the original title appears in parentheses at first mention.
  • Unstructured abstract, 200-250 words. No headed sub-sections.

Language and metadata

Title, abstract and keywords in English. Full text in English. Three to six keywords, separated by semicolons.

Manuscript template

Write your manuscript on the journal's own template — it carries the section headings, the abstract format and the requirements specific to JLPF already in place.

Download the JLPF manuscript template (.docx)

The template is the anonymised file. Prepare the title page as a separate document.

Files to submit

  1. Anonymised manuscript - no author name, affiliation or self-identifying acknowledgement anywhere in the file, for double-blind review.
  2. Title page, submitted separately: full title, every author with affiliation, e-mail and ORCID iD, corresponding author marked, and CRediT contribution statement.
  3. Statement of originality and copyright, signed by the corresponding author on behalf of all authors.

Declarations

Required at submission: competing interests, funding, data availability, acknowledgements, and use of AI - any generative tool used in drafting, analysis or translation must be named together with what it was used for. AI cannot be listed as an author.

Fees

No submission fee and no publication fee during the journal's founding period.

Research Article

Empirical research with primary or self-analysed secondary data. Full IMRaD. Sample size, sampling procedure and response rate stated in Method; every reported figure carries a measure of variation. Data Availability statement required.

Doctrinal / Legal Analysis

Analysis of legal norms, judgments and doctrine. Table of Legislation and Table of Cases precede the reference list; pin-point citation to article, clause or paragraph. Where an Indonesian instrument is translated, the original title appears in parentheses at first mention. IMRaD is not required.

Policy Analysis

Analysis of policy, regulation or institutional design from documentary and secondary evidence. Not IMRaD. Structure: Introduction, Policy and Institutional Context, Analysis, Implications, Conclusion. Policy sources should be cited to article, clause or decision number wherever the argument turns on a specific provision. Citation at instrument level is accepted where the analysis concerns the instrument as a whole. Sample size and statistical tests are not required.

Review Article

Systematic or structured narrative review. Search protocol stated: databases, keywords, year range. Inclusion and exclusion criteria declared, with the number of records screened and finally reviewed. Primary data is not required.

Case Study

In-depth study of a single case, region or organisation. The reason for selecting the case is stated explicitly; sources of evidence are named (interviews, documents, observation); the limits of generalisation are stated in the Discussion.
