Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

Journal of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (JALF) is committed to the highest standards of publication ethics and follows the Core Practices and guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). This statement sets out the duties of all parties involved in publishing in the journal: the publisher, editors, reviewers and authors.

Publisher

Journal of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (JALF) is published by Research Center Progresif (Pusat Kajian Progresif), Semarang, Indonesia. The publisher guarantees the editorial independence of the journal. Commercial considerations, including article processing charges, never influence editorial decisions.

Duties of editors

  • Publication decisions are made by the Editor-in-Chief on the basis of the manuscript's scholarly merit, originality, clarity and relevance to the journal's scope, informed by the reports of independent peer reviewers.
  • Manuscripts are evaluated without regard to the authors' race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship or political philosophy.
  • Editors keep all information about submitted manuscripts confidential and disclose it only to the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers and the publisher, as appropriate.
  • Editors do not use unpublished material from submitted manuscripts in their own research without the authors' written consent, and recuse themselves from handling manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest.
  • Editors respond promptly to complaints and to concerns about possible misconduct, following COPE flowcharts.

Duties of reviewers

  • Peer review assists the Editor-in-Chief in reaching editorial decisions and helps authors improve their work.
  • Reviewers who feel unqualified to review a manuscript, or who cannot review it promptly, should decline the invitation.
  • Manuscripts received for review are confidential documents. They must not be shown to or discussed with others, and must not be uploaded to generative AI tools or other external services.
  • Reviews should be conducted objectively; personal criticism of the authors is inappropriate. Reviewers should express their views clearly, with supporting arguments.
  • Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited, and alert the editor to any substantial similarity or overlap with other published work.
  • Reviewers must declare any conflict of interest and decline to review manuscripts in which they have competitive, collaborative or other relationships with any of the authors or institutions connected to the paper.

Duties of authors

  • Authors must ensure that their work is entirely original and that any work or words of others are appropriately cited. Plagiarism in all its forms, including self-plagiarism, is unethical and unacceptable.
  • Authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently, nor publish essentially the same research in more than one journal.
  • Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution or interpretation of the study. All co-authors must approve the final version and agree to its submission.
  • Authors must disclose any financial or other substantive conflict of interest and all sources of financial support.
  • Use of generative AI: authors must disclose any use of generative AI or AI-assisted tools in preparing the manuscript, stating the tool and its purpose. AI tools cannot be listed as authors, and authors remain fully responsible for the content of their work.
  • When authors discover a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work, they must promptly notify the editor and cooperate to retract or correct the paper.

Handling of misconduct, corrections and retractions

Allegations of research or publication misconduct are investigated following COPE guidance. Depending on the outcome, the journal may publish a correction, an expression of concern or a retraction, which will be clearly linked to the original article. Retracted articles remain available with a clear "Retracted" notice.

Use of automated assistance by the editorial office

Part of the journal's editorial administration is supported by ZIA, an assistant program running on the publisher's own systems. ZIA checks submissions for completeness, screens candidate reviewers for conflicts of interest, issues invitations and tracks deadlines. ZIA does not accept or reject manuscripts, does not judge the quality of reviews and does not sign decisions: every editorial decision is made by people and recorded under the name of the Editor-in-Chief.
